Birth of IslamThe Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born in the present country of Saudi Arabia about A.D. 571. He was the son of Abd Allah and Aminah. Because both his parents died, his father before he was born and his mother shortly after his birth, he was raised by his uncle Abd al-Muttalib. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) received his first revelation from the angel Gabriel at about the age of 40 years. It was through these revelations that the Qur'an came into being and Islam was born. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) died in the year 632 A. D. On my links page, I have sites that go into more detail on life of the prophet and his role in revealing Islam.
