In the May 2000 issue of the Reader's Digest, there was an article titled Rebels With A Veil by Azar Nafisi which addressed the issue of where a country can carry the issue of suppression by forcing women to veiling to the extreme.  I have covered this on my page dealing with Hijab.  The point I wish to address is that here we see what is supposed to be far different from what is in actuality.  The unfortunate fact is things like this do happen but they are not condoned by the Qur'an.  Islam in its pure state does not suppress women in fact it was the first time that women were given the right of inheritance etc.  Islam does guarantee women rights, but unfortunately the male does not always follow what is written.
